As I’ve noted before, Tommy Gun Annie at CKXU 88.3 FM (the student radio station at the University of Lethbridge) converted me to jazz. Since then I’ve been collecting CDs by Slinky Jazz Babes.

GO TO CKXU

Tommy Gun Annie’s Speakeasy starts at noon on Tuesdays!

tommy gun girlThis is not Tommy Gun Annie, but you get the idea.

Annie is currently finishing up an MA thesis on Hindu goddesses under Hillary Rodrigues and is a long-time member of the Religious Studies Silly Persons Society. She has great taste in beer and music.

If at all possible, I tune into 88.3FM every Tuesday at noon. And if anyone needs a good divorce lawyer, call her dad.

Thanks to Annie, I now have a small collection of John Coletrane, Miles Davis, John Scofield, Charlie Parker, and Chet Baker albums, and a good bunch of Slinky Jazz Babes™ like Holly Cole, Molly Johnson, Madelyn Peyroux and Patricia Barber.

The first Slinky Jazz Babe™ I featured on the old Thinking Shop was Sophie Milman to celebrate reactiving the blog and signing up with Technorati at the astounding rating of 1,643,669, which, by the next day, went down to 3,184,338.

Well, last week broke the 1,000,000 mark in grand fashion, and now I’m at 611,576!

So, time for another SJB™! And, like Ms. Milman, she is Canadian, too.

Larra Skye is from Toronto. Her 2006 album (cover above) did very well for her and according to her website, she is finishing a new album. She has a lot of different influences and calls her stuff “soul jazz”.

Her website also has some videos:

On CBC, with an interview.

For the country fans out there, here
she is with Jamie Walsh ‘Don’t Tell Me’.

And some live ones at http://larraskye.com/videos/

And of course she has the standard Slinky Jazz Babe™ slinky black dress. There is much rejoicing.

Mind you, Green is pretty artistic, too.

So, go buy her album. You can listen to some of it online at http://www.isound.com/larra_skye

Now, if the Thinking Shop breaks half a million on the technorati ranks, I already have another jazz artist in mind to feature. And if I manage to get into the top 50 on the Bible Bloggers listing (how they judge that, I have no idea), I will have to do something really special!
