A Creation Science College Edumacation. Putting the B.S. back into Butcher of Science
Posted on August 29, 2009 at 11:57 am by Dr. Jim
I followed a link on another blog to Creation Science Evangelism, the creatio-comedy outfit started by jailed for tax evasion, creation theme park mogul Kent Hovind and now run by one of the fruits of his loins, Eric.

It’s the usual stuff but the Online Store had a category called COLLEGE COURSES, of which there are two: CS. 101 and CS 102. This, of course, got me interested.
OK, so this is “College”.
Don’t forget that.
CS. 101
“A biblical and scientific study” that covers the Big Bang, how long the Earth has been around (not very), climate change that ended humanity’s 900 year potential life-span and MORE! WOW!
What you get for your money ($75.00 regular, currently $52.50 on sale + $25.00 registration fee)?
A 5 DVD and 1 CD ROM set, with all the course material etc etc. by Dr. Dino himself, Kent Hovind.
What are the course requirements?
I AM NOT MAKING THE FOLLOWING UP.
STRAIGHT CUT AND PAST HERE!
Each person wishing to take this class for credit–obtaining a certificate of completion* for this course–must send in a completed enrollment form (found on your CD-ROM or in your printed packet) with a $25 registration fee per person. In addition, a 750-word written synopsis must be submitted after reading one of the following books on the reading list: Scientific Creationism, The Young Earth, Panorama of Creation, Bones of Contention, Buried Alive, or After the Flood.
A 750 word synopsis? That is it? My shattered fucking professional standards!!!! I wonder how many people fail?
Same general stuff; a bunch of DVDs with Kent and a CDrom but this time the focus is on dinosaurs (on Noah’s ark), the fallacies of evolution, yada yada. Now, the course requirements are a little steeper, but remember, this is a more advanced course.
When taken for credit, a 750-word written synopsis is required after reading your choice of the following books: Unformed and Unfilled by Weston Fields orBones of Contention by Marvin Lubenow. You must also read (although no report is required) any two of the following: Claws, Jaws and Dinosaurs by William Gibbons and Dr. Kent Hovind; Monster! Monster! by Betty Sanders Gardner; The Gap Theoryby Kent Hovind and Stephen Lawwell; or What are They Teaching our Children? by Mel Gabler.
And exactly what college issues you your credit for which you might take these courses?
*To obtain college credit, you will need to present your certificate of completion with a description of the course to the college in which you are currently enrolled. They will usually accept it as an elective, a science or a religion credit.
JUMPIN’ JEBUS B. GOBLEY!!! They can’t even start their own damn degree mill! Why not send the stuff to Patriot Bible University? Its earlier manifestation (and equally unaccredited), “Patriot University” is where Dr. Dino got his PhD, albeit in “Christian Education” not any science topic.

Apparently, this is Patriot Bible University
1135 French St., Del Norte, CO.
Link goes to a site strangely critical of the institution.
“Usually accept it”? I really, really, really want someone to get their “certificate of completion” for this travesty and try to get credit at the U. of Lethbridge for it. Presumably once the application is rejected by every science department in the institution it will be deposited on my desk in Religious Studies as the scientists are on their way to the Zoo (only bar on campus) to drink themselves stupid and have a good, indignant laugh. I will look at the application and write “Credit Unaccepted: Relationship to reality undeterminable” on the line with great glee and possibly with a big felt pen. I shall then add: “Maybe try Philosophy”, and run off to the Zoo and await the philosophical fireworks while working on a major hangover with the science crowd.
Edited to add: I don’t mean to imply that Philosophy would take it any more seriously! They would tear the thing to shreds and have a damn good time doing it. I just like winding them guys up.

The day I hear the U of Eh or any other ‘concrete and steel’ university in Alberta accepts this farce of ‘advanced education’ I will return my BSc and stopping trying to teach physics and other science courses. Would King’s University College even take the time write a snarky response on the applicant’s form?
‘Science Evangelism’?? Isn’t that what Isaac Asimv, Carl Sagan, and Stephen Jay Gould were involved in?

King’s wouldn’t write a snarky response. I think they would be polite to a fellow Christian, but I don’t think they would remotely consider accepting it.

See how far you can go with the right thesis topic?

WASHINGTON (CNN) –
Virginia Governor MCDonnell’s
quote
“93-page research paper — first revealed in Sunday’s Washington Post — articulated a Christian conservative worldview that criticized “cohabitators, homosexuals and fornicators” and described working women and feminists “detrimental” to the family.
…
The thesis was called “The Republican Party’s Vision for the Family: The Compelling Issue of the Decade.” In it, McDonnell wrote that working women are “detrimental” the the family; that feminism is among “the real enemies of the traditional family”; and that the “purging” of religious influence in public schools is damaging to healthy families.
