Will God Smite America? Darwin Film has U.S. distributor

I just noticed over at Friendly Atheist the news that Creation, the movie about Mr. and Mrs. Darwin now has an American distributor.

The film has already been shown in Canada, at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Friendly One’s link went to THR.com that is reporting that the film will be released by the independent distributor Newmarket.

Paul Bettany stars as the scientist who, as depicted here, battled with others over questions of religion vs. science as he wrote his classic tome “On the Origin of Species,” and also battled his own demons over the loss of a young daughter. Bettany’s wife, Jennifer Connelly, stars as his onscreen spouse.

According to the report, Newmarket was also the distributor for Passion of the Christ.

The UK paper the Telegraph reported a while back that the film had trouble finding an American distributor because its subject matter would offend fundamentalists. I’m not sure that that really was the case (the one review I read wasn’t very positive about it), but it is nice to see the film being released there.

Passion of the Anti-Creationist is supposed to be released in the U.S. sometime in December, just in time for the WAR ON CHRISTMAS! Regardless of the film’s artistic merits, its US release date should make some for some decent blogging!

It’s the ghost of Jerry Falwell. Everyone has the right to free speech, except for people who disagree with the fundamentalists. Those Dissenters must be made to *PAY* for their sins.
