Badge War Resumes Again!

Ok, the first rounds of the badge war ended several days ago with Jim West getting the last badge in. One should not take that as a victory. See here for the first 5. West’s last feeble attempt was to claim that my key to his mythical door on truth wouldn’t work. Alas, a cold and lots of marking and reality (ugh) got in the way of a speedy response.

So here is West’s latest handiwork,

keybadge

My response after the break.

    Hey Jim,
    You got me laughing again.
But let’s show our flexibility and ability to change — a quality that certain groups do not nurture. Maybe we could change the scroll.
I just read this criticism at another site — it sounds suspiciously true. Is it?
If so, let’s change — I want a real scroll, damn it !

In the midst of all this grand entertainment, has anyone (else) noticed that the manuscript pictured on all these badges isn’t a biblical manuscript? No, my friends, all these “Bible blog” badges superimpose their message over a picture of the Temple Scroll, to which nobody today (as far as I know) ascribes religious authority. The operators of the “Believer’s” blogs and “Secular” blogs are equally non-religious with respect to the document shown in the badge. It’s like rai-ee-ain on your wedding day!

chris is just being chris… all crotchety and pedantic. look closely, there’s no writing on the ‘scroll’ that’s in any sense or way legible. it’s just a mock up. don’t be so uptight!
    ;-)

  3. Sabio Lantz Says:

    Uptight? Uptight? Uptight !
Truth is truth, we need to protect it.
    I want a real scroll.
    I’m not uptight @!

  4. Jim Says:

that’s a pretty uptight response with a whole string of uptights to prove it!
    :-)

  5. Mary Says:

Okay, so basically the argument is “only Christians can possibly understand Christian texts”? Funny, many of them seem to think they can understand Jewish texts, Mormon texts, Muslim texts, yet followers of those religions also claim the same exclusivity for “truly” understand their religious tomes. Very silly, and transparent.

  6. Jim Says:

gosh mary you’re a very serious person arent you? (it’s not a real war, don’t ya know…)

  7. Chuck Grantham Says:

Hmm. Mary has a point. If I was a published author I would insist that only I really understood my text, and everyone must pay vast consultation fees to learn what I actually meant.

Does this mean I have a future career in academia or the “Get Rich Now!” lecture circuit?
