Society of Biblical Literature Music Group Announced

I just got home from the “Memory and Forgetting in the Hebrew Bible” workshop at Munich and woke from my jet-lag stupor to find an email announcing that the S.B.L. has abandoned its long time tradition of hiring a small jazz combo to play at the big reception at the National Meeting in November. Instead, they are going to get all “jiggy with it” (whatever the heck that means), and hire a “boy band” made up of “renouned biblical scholars”. Here is the promo picture they sent.

Do note the spelling mistake. It is supposed to the “The Goys”.
From left to right: Deanne Galbraith,Roland Boer, Jim West, James McGrath, Bob Cargill.
Perhaps I will skip the reception…
While in Munich we did catch a rehearsal of one of the presentations that will be made in November in the Psalms section. Thanks to Bob Becking for letting us know about it!

Great catchy tune and happy smiling faces. Celebratory mood, really.
Great to be free, so don’t expect us to go to church when we don’t have to!

Oh yes, let’s do this. Will you be our manager and find a reception in a room with a piano? I’m game!
